The University of Tartu awarded prizes. They presented the Grand Medal and the Star of Gratitude. The Grand Medal is the highest honor.
The Senate made the decision on October 31st. Four people received the Grand Medal. They are Jaak Aaviksoo, Marlon Gerardo Dumas Menjivar, Kalle Kirsimäe, and Ivo Leito.
Jaak Aaviksoo was the university's rector. Marlon Gerardo Dumas Menjivar is a computer scientist. Kalle Kirsimäe is a geology scientist. Ivo Leito is a chemistry scientist.
The university awarded prizes to 123 more people. For example, Siim Kallas, Triin Koch, and Jaan-Juhan Oidermaa received the Star of Gratitude.
Rector Toomas Asser will present the awards on November 21st. Anyone can make a proposal. More information is available on the university's website.
