The War of Independence Victory Column is currently half-dark. This is because the light sources are being replaced. RKIK (State Defense Investments Center) says this is necessary.
Ando Voogma from RKIK explains: "Every light source lasts for a certain time. The current light sources are old. Some have burned out, some have dimmed. Now they need to be replaced with new ones."
A few years ago, there was talk about the victory column undergoing renovation. But RKIK says no renovation is currently needed. The previous owner replaced glass elements. No major renovation has been done. Now it's important to replace the light sources.
Previously, the victory column often had minor problems. For example, something was broken. Now the situation is better. From time to time, small repairs need to be made. For example, regarding the plating. Every building needs proper maintenance.
The War of Independence Victory Column was opened in 2009. It is a memorial to Estonia's victory in the War of Independence.
