Lithuania is considering purchasing a stake in Latvian airline Air Baltic. However, they have not yet made a firm decision. Lithuanian Transport Minister Eugenijus Sabutis says the information received is incomplete. They are now awaiting additional information about Air Baltic.
Minister Sabutis received the offer directly from Latvia's Minister of Transport. However, he cannot disclose it as it is confidential. The same offer was also received by German airline Lufthansa and Estonia. Lufthansa decided to purchase the stake, but Estonia declined.
Estonian Minister of Infrastructure Kuldar Leis says Air Baltic is an important partner for Estonia. However, Estonia does not wish to purchase a stake. The offer was for a ten percent stake worth 14 million euros. Leis cited the airline's financial situation as the reason.
Estonia plans to further develop Tallinn Airport. Minister Leis says they aim to serve five million passengers by 2030.
The Latvian government has long sought to sell Air Baltic. Their goal is to make an initial public offering of shares. The state will nevertheless remain the largest owner. Air Baltic is also looking for a new CEO, as the previous CEO Martin Gauss was dismissed due to significant losses.
