81 years ago, many Estonian soldiers died at Sinimäed. The soldiers were in German uniforms. Sinimäed is an important place in Estonian history.
The Friends of the Estonian Legion Club organized an event. They believed that politicians have an important role. Martin Sööt said that Sinimäed is a battlefield. There, the victims should be commemorated.
Riigikogu member Meelis Kiili participated in the event. He said that this is an important part of Estonian history. Kiili believed that previously there were no political reasons to come to Sinimäed.
Politicians were able to speak and lay flowers at Grenaderimägi. Members of the government were not present. Riigikogu Deputy Speaker Arvo Aller said that the government may not agree with the Riigikogu. He believed that the government should understand its role in Estonian history.
In 1944, the defensive battles stopped the Red Army's advance. Thanks to this, many Estonians escaped from Soviet occupation.
