The Estonian Navy ship Admiral Cowan was damaged on February 16th.
The ship sailed out of Estonian waters. The ice was very thick and heavy. This caused damage to the ship.
The ship was sent for emergency maintenance. Other Navy ships are in order.
The Navy does not disclose the extent of the damage. They also do not say how much the repair will cost.
Some thought that another ship, Raju, was also damaged. But the Navy said this is not true.
Admiral Cowan is one of three ships purchased from Great Britain. The other ships are Ugandi and Sakala.
Usually, one ship is active, another is under maintenance, and the third is at home.
The Navy also has three patrol ships. These monitor the Estonian sea.
Admiral Cowan arrived in Estonia in 2007. Between 2018-2019, it received upgrades.
The ship has a good device for detecting mines. It uses a robot or divers to destroy mines.
The patrol ship Raju was built by an Estonian company. It has been serving in the Navy since 2023.
