BLRT Group is building a new foundry in Kohila. The factory is named BLRT Foundry. This is an important project for Estonia's economy.
The factory will cost 14 million euros. It will start operating by the end of next summer. The factory will provide jobs for 70 people.
The factory will produce cast iron items. The weight of one item can be up to three tons. This is one of the largest investments in the Baltic and Finland region.
The factory is coming to Kohila because it is close to Tallinn. Kohila municipality supports the project. In addition, a Rail Baltica station is coming to Kohila.
In recent years, the foundry industry has declined in Scandinavia and the Baltics. Now there is a high demand for cast items again. These items are needed in the machinery and defense industries.
The factory will produce various items. For example, housings, gearboxes, and engine parts.
The head of BLRT Group said they want to hire employees from Kohila municipality. They also want their current employees to come to the new factory.
The factory manager said that production volume will be three times larger than now. Approximately 3,000 tons of items will be produced annually.
