New rules will come into effect on Sunday. These are for honey.
Before it was simple. The jar had "European honey" or "foreign honey" written on it. Now it must be more precise. For example: Estonia 50%, Latvia 20%.
Estonian beekeepers already write where the honey is from. The new rules are a bigger change for those who mix honey from different countries.
The new rules help prevent deception. Some mix honey with artificial syrup. This is not pure honey. The new rules help to see this.
Another problem is false origin. Some sell foreign honey as Estonian honey. This is wrong.
Estonian beekeepers produce enough honey. Some years there is more, some years less. Last year there was less, but there was enough for everyone.
The new rules will come into effect on Sunday. Old products can be sold until they run out.
