The Council of Rectors has approached the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Regional Affairs, and the Defense Resources Agency.
They wish that from 2028 onwards, conscription would begin at the end of January or the beginning of August.
Currently, conscription begins in February and August. This creates problems for students.
According to the rectors, students cannot continue their studies when they return from conscription.
The rectors want conscription to last for 12 months. This way, students will have time for their studies.
They wish that winter conscription would begin at the end of January. Then students can complete the fall semester.
When they return, they can start the spring semester right at the beginning.
Summer conscription should begin at the start of August. This way, students have time to manage university matters.
Currently, conscription begins in February and August. According to the rectors, these dates are unsuitable.
The spring semester begins in February. If a student returns in August, the academic year has already started.
The same problem exists with the summer call-up. The fall semester begins in August. Students do not have time to arrive.
The rectors want to find a solution so that conscription and studies can better align.
