A few weeks ago, it was announced that the Motorsports Museum MOMU in Turba will close its doors at the end of August. The reason is the low number of visitors and the difficult economic situation. Upon hearing this news, many motorsports fans came to Turba.
MOMU has been operating in the Ellamaa power plant building for just over seven years. The museum showcases the history of Estonian motorsports over three centuries. On Sunday, the museum was open to individual visitors for the last day. A few hours after opening, it was difficult to find parking in the center of Turba.
On Saturday, the situation was even worse. Turba was full of cars. Over the past two weeks, MOMU has had an average of 500 visitors per day. On weekends, the museum was visited by 1500 people per day.
Many people came to the museum, although they had not originally planned to do so. MOMU founder Arno Sillat said they are very grateful to all visitors. This shows that there are still motorsports fans in Estonia.
One visitor, Roland, said that MOMU is a fantastic place. He wished the museum would remain open longer. It is still too early to say what will happen to MOMU in the future. The collected collection will not be dispersed.
Arno Sillat mentioned that MOMU is the largest motorsports museum in the world. He said that perhaps they should focus on quality to preserve the history of Estonian motorsports.
At the request of the public, MOMU will be open again on September 13th and 14th. Additionally, all pre-booked group visits will be accepted.
