In Sõrve, people recently built a beautiful bus shelter for themselves. Previously, there was also a stove or fireplace there. The Laimjala community turned their bus stop into an information point. The Lümanda community decorated their bus stop with art.
Anni Roost, the village elder of Lümanda, said: 'Artists came to live in our village. They wanted to make our village more beautiful. Our bus stop could be the most beautiful in Estonia.'
Bus traffic has changed in Saaremaa. Bus stops have become important places. People meet there and spend time.
Raino Sepp, head of the Saaremaa municipality's administration department, said: 'The bus stop shows the vitality of the village. The municipality supports it when local people make it beautiful.'
Where the community does not act, the municipality wants to help. Raino Sepp added: 'We have 179 bus stops. Many are in good condition, but some need repairs.'
