Martin Herem may become the new defense minister.
Herem has stated that he wants to make personnel decisions himself. For this, the current chancellor Kaimo Kuusk must leave.
The chancellor cannot simply be dismissed. The law states that a chancellor can only leave after 6 months.
However, in 6 months there will be parliamentary elections. At that point, there will be no reason to replace the chancellor.
If Herem wants to become minister, Kuusk must resign voluntarily.
The government appoints the chancellor. The government will meet on Thursday.
Kuusk previously worked in foreign intelligence. He was also an ambassador to Ukraine.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur announced last week that he is stepping down.
Martin Herem and Raimond Kaljulaid had a dispute on social media. Kaljulaid warned Herem that Reform Party is using him.
Herem responded that in wartime conditions, we cannot wait until elections. Quick decisions are needed.
