On Sunday, ferries Kihnu Virve and Ormsö will not operate as usual.
The ships will remain in harbor for an hour. Ormsö will be in Sviby harbor from 12-13. Kihnu Virve will be in Kihnu harbor at the same time.
The strike is taking place because the crew and ferry company could not agree on wage conditions. The union wants employees to receive higher wages.
The union turned to a state mediator for help. They want ferry company Kihnu Veeteed to give employees a 30% wage increase. They also propose that wages should rise next year as well.
On Wednesday, the union and mediator were supposed to receive a response from the ferry company. But no response came. Therefore, the crews decided to strike.
The union says they have tried to negotiate with the ferry company since March 9. But no agreement has been reached.
The ferry company Kihnu Veeteed also did not respond to the mediator's proposal on June 26. Their responses were insufficient.
