The shunting locomotive MEV-1 traveled to Haapsalu from the Pääsküla depot. On Friday, the locomotive was lifted into place with cranes. First the chassis, then the body.
The locomotive was in use in the 1990s. It was used for shunting work. When Stadler trains arrived, the locomotive no longer worked. Elron employee Oliver Kuks said that the locomotive is special.
The locomotive was rebuilt from a motor coach. This was done by Estonian men. There is no other locomotive like it in the world. Museum director Talis Vare said that it is unique.
The locomotive was made in Estonia. It is the first of its kind. There are other coaches in the world, but not like this one. Kuks added that it is the only one.
The locomotive has not been operational since 2013. In recent years, it has been in the museum. Pääsküla now has new Škoda trains. Therefore, the locomotive went to Haapsalu.
The locomotive is 20 meters long. It weighs over 50 tons. The museum will tell the story of the locomotive. Vare said that an exhibition about the locomotive's history will be created.
