Delfi Media is going to the Press Council due to the story "Spies in Delfi?" in the TV show "Kuuuurija". According to editor-in-chief Urmo Soonvald, the story spreads falsehoods and personal data.
Soonvald said their first step is to go to the Press Council. He said they will first explain to their readers and colleagues how they view this story. Then they will proceed to the Press Council and see further.
Soonvald stated that journalism should talk about topics and phenomena where there is something interesting. He added that doing harm or using false material does not belong to the principles of journalism.
Soonvald mentioned that he expects Postimees Group to change the story and apologize. He said that stories published online should be corrected if there are mistakes. He noted that this story was false and harmful.
Soonvald said that Postimees and "Kuuuurija" should think about why they did this. He believed that this could damage Delfi Media, Postimees, and Estonian journalism.
Postimees editor-in-chief Anvar Samost said that Delfi's complaint to the Press Council shows their internal tensions. He said that the "Kuuuurija" story did not violate journalistic ethics and that there is no reason to apologize to Delfi.
