Isamaa's Tartu City Council faction announced that they have expelled Kris Kärner from their ranks. Faction leader Kaspar Kokk said that Kärner's words show that he does not understand how a politician should behave.
Kokk said: "Unfortunately, we had no choice. We decided to expel Kärner. I hope he understands that words have consequences. Our cooperation has ended."
Kärner recently spoke about the Holocaust on social media. His words were controversial. A video is circulating on TikTok where he says his child would have survived the Holocaust.
Kärner belonged to the Isamaa party but left in September. He called for political violence. He wrote on social media that social democrats should be lined up against a wall and shot.
In October, Kärner ran for the Tartu City Council on the Isamaa list. He received 1,597 votes and was elected to the council. In December, he joined the Isamaa faction. Tõnis Lukas left the faction because he did not want to be with Kärner.
The Estonian Jewish Community is concerned about Kärner's words. They said such words insult the victims of the Holocaust. They call on politicians to condemn such words.
The Jewish Community said: "Such words are irresponsible. We consider them unacceptable. We call on politicians to change laws to punish such words."
