Free spruce seedlings were distributed at the RMK Iisaku nursery. Initially, 80,000 seedlings were planned to be given away. So many people came that the queue grew quickly.
One person said they came at 9 o'clock, and the queue was already half a kilometer long. People came from all over Estonia. Many said they would plant the seedlings in the forest or make a hedge.
The RMK manager said that people are happy to receive the seedlings. They added that many will plant them immediately or over the weekend.
One woman said that RMK made the right decision to distribute the seedlings. She mentioned that people have put in a lot of effort to grow the seedlings.
Director Eili Neuhaus was happy that people are planting trees. She said it lifts the spirits.
Each person received up to 40 bags of seedlings. One man said the bags are heavy, and a 50-year-old man's heart starts beating faster.
RMK has more than 2.7 million seedlings left this year. It will be decided later whether they will be given away for free or another solution will be found.
