Tammsaare House Museum in Tallinn will undergo renovation next year. The museum is in poor condition and requires major repairs. The Kadrioru Library, located in the same building, will also temporarily close its doors.
The library will move to a temporary location at Narva maantee 63, which is the Kadrioru business center. The library will be closed from December 9, 2025, to March 3, 2026. During this time, readers can visit other Tallinn libraries.
It is not yet known whether the library will return to the same location after the renovation. The library wants to find a new and more spacious space. If this is not found, the library will return to its old location.
Locals are dissatisfied because the library is an important place, especially for children. Many wish for the library to remain in the same location. The library is a great place where children can get acquainted with books.
Tammsaare Museum director Maarja Vaino says the building renovation is necessary. The building is in very poor condition. The renovation will take at least a year. The museum will remain closed during this time.
After the renovation, the museum will have a new exhibition. The historical rooms will also be restored. The museum wants the entire building to be under its control. This would help better organize exhibitions and events.
The museum promises that after the renovation, it will be open to everyone. Children, in particular, are welcome to visit. There are comfortable spaces on the first floor to spend time.
The Kadrioru Library has moved before. The first library opened in 1953. It was small, consisting of only one room. Later, it moved to a larger space. Now the library is moving to a temporary location again.
