At Hipodroomi intersection in Tallinn, the incoming direction will be closed from May 5 to 29. Traffic will be redirected to the opposite direction. This will make traffic more complicated and take more time.
Joel Jesse, Deputy Mayor for Transport, says the city is doing everything to improve traffic. "The Hipodroomi intersection is a very important spot. During construction, traffic is disrupted. We are ready – traffic regulators will be on site in the first days," said Jesse.
The new traffic arrangement will take effect on May 5 at 10 am. Traffic regulators will assist during peak hours on May 5 and 6. If necessary, regulators will also be present on May 7.
The city recommends that those coming from Keila choose another route, such as Pärnu Road. Public transport is recommended, as trains run from Keila. Those coming from Tabasalu and Harku could drive through Mustamäe.
The intersection will remain open, but traffic will change. From June 1, the outgoing direction on Paldiski Road will be closed. Public transport changes will only take place in June. New schedules will be published on the website transport.tallinn.ee.
The work began in spring so that the outgoing direction could be completed before winter. The construction aims to create a new residential area and a safer road. Additionally, new bike lanes, green islands, and lighting will be installed. The Paldiski Road avenue will be preserved. A new left turn will also be created from Hipodroomi Street.
Tallinna Vesi and Utilitas Tallinna Soojus are also carrying out their work. The project cost is 11.6 million euros.
