The largest grain growers in Järvamaa have started harvesting winter wheat. A lot of work was done over the weekend as the weather doesn't stay dry for long.
Väätsa Agro technical manager Argo Arras said the yield is 9.26 tons per hectare. This is a very good result. Agronomist Kert Kiis said the grains are dry and ready for harvesting.
Estonia agronomist Toomas Printsmann said the yield varies. Some fields yielded less than 7 tons per hectare, while others did not exceed 10 tons.
The yield is good, but the grain quality varies. Kiis said some areas are lodged or wet. The grains are not uniformly ripe.
Printsmann said the weather did not help the grain ripen evenly. Storms and rain have knocked down a lot of grain. This makes harvesting more difficult.
