A 2023 study showed that Tallinn's population would increase mainly due to immigration. The new study shows that the population will grow by an average of 620 people per year until 2035. After that, it will grow by 1,070 people per year.
This means that by 2035, Tallinn will have about 463,000 inhabitants. By 2050, the population would be just under 480,000.
The forecast assumes that migration will remain the same and the number of births will first decrease and then increase. Life expectancy is also expected to rise. The impact of housing construction was not considered in the forecast.
Tallinn's population in 2025 was smaller than the previous forecast indicated. The new forecast predicts that the number of children will decrease until 2033 and then increase. By 2050, the number of children will return to the 2025 level.
