Eesti Raudtee announced that its contractual partner Siemens Mobility OY has not been able to complete its works on time. The preparation of safety documentation takes time, as it is the first time this type of technology is being used.
Kaido Zimmermann, the head of Eesti Raudtee, said that the major construction works towards Tartu have been completed. However, the activation of the new traffic control systems at Tapa station has been delayed. Originally, the new schedule was supposed to take effect on September 19, but now it will be extended for another week.
Zimmermann added that to ensure safe rail traffic, it is best to continue with the current schedule. Only when the contractors have completed their work can the new traffic control system be activated. This will allow for higher speeds on the railway.
Eesti Raudtee apologizes to railway users and recommends monitoring the Elron website. More detailed information on train schedules and possible changes is available there.
