On the evening of July 19, the emergency center received a report. There was a strong chemical odor in the stairwell of the apartment building on Rummu Aia Street. The smell was so strong that it was difficult to breathe.
The residents were evacuated. Two people were taken to the hospital for a health check. The Rescue Board announced this on Sunday.
Rescue workers came from Paldiski, Keila, Kesklinna, and Lilleküla. Volunteers from Hüüru also helped.
Measurements showed that the chemical was present in all stairwells. Therefore, the entire building began to be ventilated and people were evacuated.
All evacuated individuals received a medical check-up. Two people were taken to the hospital.
The Lääne-Harju Municipal Government opened the Rummu sports hall. Seventeen people spent the night there. Others found shelter on their own.
New measurements were taken at four in the morning. These showed that the danger had passed. The residents were able to return home.
The chemical that caused the problem is still unknown.
