Air traffic services are not receiving payment from Russian airlines. Estonia is required to service flights over the Baltic Sea. Meanwhile, their revenue increased in the second quarter.
In the second quarter, a profit of 7.5 million euros was made. A year ago, this figure was lower. Nearly 49,000 flights were serviced. Most flights were from Chinese companies.
Some European companies reduced their flights. Estonian flights have not yet reached pre-pandemic levels. In the second quarter, there were 26% fewer flights than in 2019.
Europe now has a new pricing system. The head of air traffic services said that the system will continue to be modified for years.
Russian airlines are not paying their bills. Estonia has to service Russian flights for safety reasons. The head said that Russian companies should pay like other companies, but sanctions are preventing the movement of money.
The same problems exist in Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Norway. They also have to service Russian flights.
