Varro Vooglaid wants to know if the police (PPA) are telling the truth about number plate recognition cameras. He requested images from the police where his car and face are visible. The police did not provide him with these images.
Vooglaid says that he was driving his car himself and that his personal data does not need to be protected. He wants to see if the cameras really do not show the faces of people in the car.
The police say that the cameras are set up in such a way that people in the car are not recognizable. Vooglaid wants to verify this. He believes that the police are not providing the images because they may have lied to the parliament.
Vooglaid has already sent his fourth request to the police, but has not received a response. He believes that the police are acting unfairly. He is considering taking legal action if things do not change.
The police say that information has been removed from the images to prevent people from being identified. They do not provide the owner with images where people are visible, even if the owner says that he was driving the car himself.
In recent months, 47 people have requested images from the police. Vooglaid is not the only one who wants to see his image.
