Turkish company ARCA is establishing an ammunition plant in Ida-Virumaa. This could bring nearly 1000 new jobs.
There are still many questions about the plant. It is unclear whether all jobs will be direct or if indirect jobs are also expected. However, the ammunition manufacturer is welcome in Virumaa as there is a need for workers.
Between 70,000 and 80,000 people live near the plant, including Rakvere, Kohtla-Järve, and Jõhvi. Rapid recruitment will create competition in the labor market.
The company may hire commuters and specialists from abroad.
Lüganuse mayor Dmitri Dmitrijev believes that new jobs and workers will improve Kiviõli's housing economy. If demand increases, the number of vacant apartments will decrease, and real estate prices will rise.
Anneki Teelahk, head of the Virumaa department of the Unemployment Insurance Fund, says there are many unemployed in Virumaa. The number of unemployed is seven times higher than the plant's needs in Kiviõli. If unemployed workers cannot be found, employees from other companies may be hired.
The labor market should become more active as companies compete for workers, which is positive. For example, there are few salaries below 1000 euros in Virumaa. Employers will need to make an effort.
The actual labor needs will become clear once the company shares its plans with the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
