Starting from 2027, a new vessel will operate on the Muuga-Vuosaari route. This vessel is primarily for cargo transport.
According to the Port of Tallinn, the new vessel will help redirect heavy cargo traffic away from the city centers of Tallinn and Helsinki. Vuosaari is the largest and most eastern district of Helsinki. The vessel has a passenger lounge, cabins, a cafe, and other necessary services.
The vessel will be unveiled in November and will start operations in 2027. The new route will strengthen the position of Estonia and the Port of Muuga as a north-south transport corridor. It connects Finland with the Baltic states and Central and Southern Europe.
The regular ferry route between Tallinn and Helsinki was opened in 2017. It has been served by Tallink and Eckerö Line. Currently, Eckerö Line uses the vessel Finbo Cargo on the route. The existing vessel and the new vessel at Muuga Port will be served at the HHLA TK Estonia terminal.
Cargo volumes on the Muuga-Vuosaari route have grown. The current vessel cannot handle all the cargo. The new vessel will increase transport capacity and offer customers better options. It will create favorable conditions for the growth of trade between Estonia and Finland.
