The new Tallinn city government held its first session. During it, the current district mayors were relieved of their duties. The Center Party will select district mayors for Haabersti, Kesklinn, Lasnamäe, Pirita, and Põhja-Tallinn districts. Isamaa will select district mayors for Kristiine, Mustamäe, and Nõmme districts.
Isamaa's candidates are already known. Marja-Liisa Veiser will continue as the district mayor of Mustamäe. Anna Levandi will not continue as the district mayor of Haabersti, as she wishes to be a member of the city council.
The Center Party will likely announce its candidates on Friday. The Lasnamäe district mayor will be a surprise, as it is neither the previous district mayor nor the deputy mayor.
Last time when the Center Party was in power, the district mayors were Oleg Siljanov (Haabersti), Manuela Pihlap (Põhja-Tallinn), Monika Haukanõmm (Kesklinn), Kaido Saarniit (Pirita), and Julianna Jurtšenko (Lasnamäe). Haukanõmm is now the deputy mayor. Jurtšenko left the Center Party last year.
District mayors are appointed to office by the city government.
