A fire broke out in a chemical industry building in Kiviõli, Ida-Viru County, on Monday. The Rescue Board says the smoke is not dangerous and no one was injured.
On Monday morning at 10:44, the emergency center received a report that a chemical industry building on Turu Street in Kiviõli was on fire. The fire is on the fifth floor. The Rescue Board is trying to access it using stairwells and elevators.
Martin Martinson, the head of the rescue center on site, said that flames are visible on the fifth floor. A thermal camera showed that there are several fire sources on the floor. The Rescue Board reported that no one was injured.
Martinson does not know how long the firefighting will take. The height of the building and the layout of the rooms make the work more difficult. He said it could take several more hours.
Martinson confirmed that the smoke is not dangerous to local residents. The wind is blowing away from the city towards the ash hills, where no one lives. The smoke is also not dangerous further away from the company's territory.
Martinson said that the cause of the fire is still unknown. The Rescue Board will begin investigating the cause once the fire is extinguished.
