The construction of the TV building has already lasted a year. Oleg Kaas, the project manager of Nordecon, says that it started in November last year. First, the site between the news building and the radio building was prepared.
Kaas explained that they tried to break the old TV mast foundation, but it turned out to be too difficult. Therefore, rock drills were used, which was faster. During the construction process, old water pipes, which were not marked on the plan, caused problems.
Underground work took more time, but the construction is on schedule. The cornerstone will be laid when half of the underground work is done. Kaas said that underground work can take up to half of the construction time.
Janar Vilde, the administrative director of ERR, says that the construction does not interfere with journalists' work. Colleagues have been very supportive and understanding when noise needs to be made.
Some unexpected situations have also arisen during construction. For example, a cable was accidentally drilled, which left ERR working for 12 hours without electricity. It was also a test of responsiveness.
The construction also affects city residents. Dust spreads from the site, and large trucks going to the construction site hinder traffic. In the future, streets will also be closed at certain times.
The aim of the construction is to complete the TV building ahead of the deadline.
