Tallinn University organized a competition to find a new design for Narva Road. The winning work envisions creating a green promenade and changing traffic patterns. The university wants to start work next spring.
However, the city is not satisfied because they consider the plans too complicated. The city does not want to reduce the number of lanes. Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan says the plans are not in line with the city's objectives.
University Chancellor Kristi Vinter says the work will continue. They want to collaborate with the city to find a good solution. According to the plans, the hedge in front of the university will remain, as it is important for the urban space.
The winning work includes green areas and new seating. The university wants to make its territory more open. The tram will also remain on the street, but traffic will become calmer.
The city does not currently plan to change Narva Road. They are focusing on Petrooleumi Street work. However, the university hopes their plans can still be implemented.
