The Ministry of Education has made a plan for the next academic year. The winter school break will end on January 2.
The reason is that a three-week vacation would be too long. After such a break, it would take children too long to get used to school again.
The autumn break for the next academic year will be from October 25 to October 31. The Christmas break will start on December 20 and end on January 2.
Someone asked if the Christmas break could be extended. In Estonia, the Christmas break is short compared to other European countries.
An expert from the Ministry of Education says that a longer break would be difficult. After a long break, it would be challenging to readjust to school.
The Christmas break lasts for 16 days. Last year, it ended on January 4.
Last year, the ministry decided to shorten the Christmas break by a week. The reason was feedback from schools that a three-week break is too long.
