There are just over two months left until the local elections. To participate in the elections, candidates must be listed in the municipality's residents' register.
Municipalities have already determined the number of council members. The members of the election commission have also been appointed. Both Estonian and European Union citizens can run as candidates.
In addition to political parties, electoral alliances can also submit candidate lists. The candidacy period begins on August 20. Lists can be submitted until September 9.
Riina Solman, a representative of Isamaa, said they are trying to participate in as many municipalities as possible. In Tallinn, Isamaa's list is almost ready. The mayoral candidate will be announced in a few days.
Vadim Belobrovtsev, a representative of the Center Party, said that most of their candidates are running where they live. He suggested that in the future, it might be worth discussing whether the residency requirement for candidates is necessary.
