In 2023, 71% of people visited museums. This is slightly higher than now.
The most popular museums are the Estonian National Museum (ERM), the Kumu Art Museum, and the AHHAA Science Center. Also popular are the Estonian Open Air Museum and the Estonian Maritime Museum. These are the most visited museums over the past year.
According to the survey, women are more familiar with museums than men. Most Estonians remember museums well, but there are exceptions. For example, Lennusadam, Narva Castle, and Fat Margaret are more popular among other nationalities.
People are more familiar with museums located nearby. Museum visits are influenced by their programs and people's financial situation.
Many said they are interested in visiting museums but lack money. It is especially difficult for families who have to pay for tickets and travel long distances.
Most often, people visit museums with their families. Men go alone more often, women with friends.
16% of visitors went to a museum for the first time in their lives. There were more first-time visitors among other nationalities.
The survey involved 1,252 people aged 16–84. The results of the survey are available on the website of the National Heritage Board.
