A very large rabbit exhibition was opened at the Peetri Community House in Järva County. The exhibition features 200 rabbits from 28 different breeds and 61 color variations.
On the first day, expert Markus Eber from Germany evaluated the rabbits. He checked if the rabbits met their breed standards. He assessed their appearance, ear length, and fur. The rabbits should not be too fat or too thin.
Liina Elken, the president of the Estonian Rabbit Breeders' Society, said that the goal of the exhibition is to showcase the quality of rabbits bred in Estonia. She mentioned that rabbits are also raised for meat, but they can also become pets.
In Estonia, many people raise rabbits as a hobby. The culture of rabbit exhibitions is still in its early stages. Rabbits are quite popular as pets in Estonia.
Rabbit breeder Anneli Prits explained that rabbits are somewhat different from cats and dogs. They might bite and may not like being held.
The exhibition also features rare rabbits. For example, Marina Klaus from Võrumaa showed Flemish Giant rabbits. She said she came to the exhibition to show how beautiful her rabbits are.
The large rabbit exhibition is open until Sunday afternoon at the Peetri Community House in Järva County.
