On Monday, the city council held a vote. Peeter Raudsepp received 46 votes in favor. To be elected, at least 40 votes were needed. 74 councilors participated in the vote.
Raudsepp joined the Isamaa party last week. No other candidates for mayor were nominated. The Social Democrats wanted Urmas Reinsalu as mayor, but his candidacy was not confirmed.
The city government was elected on the same day. The deputy mayors from the Center Party are Monika Haukanõmm, Tiit Terik, Andrei Kante, and Joel Jesse. The deputy mayors from Isamaa are Riina Solman and Kristjan Järvan.
Next week, the council will hold its second session. There, the second deputy chairman will be elected. Last week, Sven Sester was elected as the first deputy chairman.
The position of the second deputy chairman usually goes to the opposition. It should go to the Social Democrats. Their candidate is Jevgeni Ossinovski.
The district elders of Tallinn have not yet been appointed. The Center Party will nominate candidates for five districts. Isamaa will nominate candidates for three districts.
