Prosecutor's Office Challenges Acquittal of Police Chiefs
Riigiprokuratuur esitas Tallinna ringkonnakohtule apellatsiooni Harju maakohtu otsusele, millega politseijuhid õigeks mõisteti.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal with the Tallinn Circuit Court against the Harju County Court's decision acquitting the police chiefs.
The Public Prosecutor's Office believes that the Tallinn Circuit Court can make a new decision. They believe that all the evidence indicates the guilt of the police chiefs. Prosecutor Jürgen Hüva said that the formalization of the police chiefs' employment violated the law.
The Public Prosecutor's Office believes that Eerik Heldna's employment formalization was fictitious. This means that Heldna had no actual plans to work in policy. The Prosecutor's Office believes that the court made incorrect conclusions because they did not review all the evidence.
Prosecutor Jürgen Hüva said that Heldna's employment formalization was fictitious. Its purpose was to obtain a police pension. The Prosecutor's Office wants the circuit court to overturn the county court's decision. They want the police chiefs to be found guilty.
On March 31, the Harju County Court acquitted Eerik Heldna, Elmar Vaher, and Aivar Alavere. They had been accused of rotation fraud.
