In April, it became known that the Central Criminal Police is investigating possible illegal financing of Isamaa. The press has not yet received a comment from the Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutor General Taavi Pern said that they are leading a criminal investigation. They are investigating whether a prohibited donation was made to an Estonian political party. Currently, they cannot say who the suspects are.
Pern said that the investigation is complex and thorough. They still need to clarify some things before possible suspicions can be raised. Currently, they believe that prohibited financing has occurred.
Based on the materials collected so far, there could be two, four, or even more suspects. Pern hopes that suspicions will be raised in the autumn, not in winter or next year.
Delfi has previously claimed that the investigation is related to Isamaa's major donor Parvel Pruunsild. Pruunsild said that he has not been questioned regarding the criminal case, but other people have told him about it.
Pruunsild said that he financially supported various people to keep Isamaa the same. He did not want to reveal how large the sums were or who exactly these people were.
