The Ministry of Social Affairs conducted an analysis on how to help families have and raise children. They proposed 16 initiatives. For example, they suggested adjusting family benefits according to the rise in cost of living. This would help families cope better.
The ministry also recommended changing the parental benefit. It should account for wage growth when a family has multiple children in succession. However, all these proposals are costly. For example, family benefits will cost around 443 million euros next year.
Mare Ainsaar says that these measures are necessary. Life in Estonia has become more expensive. For example, kindergarten fees are higher than the support for the first and second child. This makes life difficult for parents.
However, Mare Ainsaar does not agree with all the proposals. She does not support the idea of giving child support for housing purchases. She believes that this money should be used for raising the child.
