The Transport Administration and KMG OÜ have reached an agreement. They will build a new section on the Tallinn-Tartu-Võru-Luhamaa highway. It will be located between kilometers 99.1 and 107.1. Work will begin in September and last for 30 months.
Janno Sammul is the director of the Transport Administration's road maintenance service. He said this is an important section. It will make traffic safer. The Tallinn-Tartu highway will get an 8 km long 2+2 section. Traffic towards Viljandi will become smoother.
The Transport Administration plans to build more 2+2 roads. In total, 53 km of new road will be built. This will cost 277 million euros.
The project aims to widen the current road. It will become a four-lane highway. This will increase safety and comfort. Traffic will flow better.
During the works, the following will be built: - 8 km of 2+2 road - Collector roads - An eco-duct - Two bridges over the Navesti River - Three viaducts - Small animal tunnels - Noise barriers and noise walls
The new Paia interchange will connect with Imavere. A safe bus stop will also be built there. It will have a waiting area, parking, and a light traffic path.
The work will be carried out by KMG OÜ together with Infragreen OÜ. The construction will cost 42.8 million euros. VAT is additional.
The European Union fund will cover 95% of the project cost.
