The Estonian Education Workers' Union (EHL) and the Ministry of Education (HTM) did not reach an agreement on teachers' salaries.
Teachers want their salaries to increase by 20% at the beginning of the new year. Currently, their salary is 1820 euros per month and it has not increased.
Reemo Voltri, the chairman of EHL, says that teachers are very dissatisfied. They are ready to go on strike if the salary does not increase.
EHL wanted teachers' salaries to rise to 2050 euros already in September of this year. However, the Ministry of Education did not agree to this.
If the next negotiations do not succeed, teachers may start a strike. They want their salary to increase by 20% by 2026.
Currently, the minimum salary for teachers is 1803 euros per month. However, teachers are not satisfied with this. They already went on strike in 2024 but ended the strike when the salary increased slightly.
Teachers want their salary to be equal to the average salary in Estonia. They are ready to fight for this.
