Near Kuusalu, a local sawmill owner is clearing logging residues in the forest for wood chips. He has about twenty clients. If you ask him for dry wood, he doesn't have any. He dries the wood himself and stocks it in advance.
Currently, only unseasoned wood is for sale. There is no more dry wood. In previous years, the sale of dry wood was poor. Now, more unseasoned wood is being sold.
A local man, Tarmo Kamm, has been making firewood for over 30 years. He owns seven and a half hectares of forest but also buys from state forests. The price of state forest increases by one to two euros every year. He does have dry wood, which he uses himself and gives to relatives.
Many people have asked if Kamm sells wood. He says dry wood is expensive, and that's why many don't buy it. The price of dry firewood online is 75 to 80 euros per cubic meter.
The high cost of electricity discourages sawing and splitting. Locals say it's not worth sawing or splitting with electricity. You can saw with a chainsaw, but splitting requires electricity.
For the same reason, there are no briquettes or pellets. Wholesalers say the electricity price is too high, and production is not worthwhile.
