Last week, a Riigikogu meeting took place. The presidential elections were discussed there. The parties had not yet agreed on a common candidate. They agreed that Lauri Hussar would first speak with Karis. Hussar wants to know if Karis intends to run for a second term.
Karis said in an interview that the meeting will not happen quickly. He said that Hussar is not inviting himself to lunch with the president. Karis said they are trying to agree on a time. He added that meeting with the Riigikogu Speaker is part of the president's job.
Hussar's advisor Indrek Tarand said he has sent a letter to the president's office advisor. In the letter, he requested to agree on a meeting time. Tarand said the meeting could take place in a friendly atmosphere.
The president's office spokesperson said the meeting time has not yet been agreed upon. They said they would inform when the time is clear.
Karis said politicians need clarity on what they want. He said there is still time and no rush. Karis said he is still thinking about running. He mentioned that with one term, he has not completed all his plans. He said five years is a short time, and a couple more years would help complete the plans.
