In Narva, the border queue is managed by the company Transservis-N. The company has been in trouble for two years.
Previously, thousands of cars crossed the border. The company paid money to the city of Narva. Now the company is asking the city for financial aid. This year, 50,000 euros are needed. Next year, twice as much will be needed.
The city of Narva has not yet decided what to do with the company. The city council says that perhaps the company will have to cease operations. The city government will begin discussing this.
The mayor of Narva, Jaan Toots, says that closing the company would be difficult. He hopes that the border will reopen and the company will not have to be closed.
Opposition members say that the border may remain closed for a long time. They say there is no point in keeping the company operational.
The Narva city council will make a decision next year. The border was closed in 2024 when Russia began border reconstruction. The work is expected to be completed by December of this year.
