The weather in recent years has been very different. This has forced berry growers to try new ways of growing raspberries.
Near Valgjärve in Põlvamaa is the Tontoili berry farm. There, raspberries are grown differently. They do not plant raspberries directly in the ground. They grow them in pots.
In spring, the plants are planted in the ground later. This helps the plants better withstand the cold. Spring raspberries initially grow in a tunnel. This protects them from severe frosts.
Kardo Tamm, the owner of Tontoili berry farm, says this year's harvest is good. There have been no heavy rains. The spring frost did not damage the plants. Everything is fine.
In Ahja is the Joosepi farm. There, the first tunnel-grown raspberries were already ready by Midsummer Day. Now, the potted plants are also yielding a good harvest. The raspberry season may last until the end of August.
