In January 2025, a major international conference on aiding Ukraine will take place in Tallinn. The Tallinn city government is not satisfied with the timing of the conference.
Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan says January is a bad time. Such large events usually take place in summer. He doesn't understand why January was chosen.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mariin Ratnik says the date was chosen in cooperation with Ukrainians. They considered that it would fit with other major events. For example, with the Davos Economic Forum.
Järvan is concerned that there is too little time. Currently, it is not known where the conference will take place and who will speak there. He fears that if something goes wrong, Estonia will get a bad reputation.
Ratnik says it is normal that not everything is known yet. The previous conference took place just a few months ago. She believes Tallinn will find a good venue for the event.
Ratnik adds that Tallinn has enough experience organizing large events. She is not worried about snow. For example, there is always a lot of snow in Davos, but it doesn't bother people.
5000–7000 people may attend the conference. Former US President Donald Trump might also come.
