The leader of the Social Democrats, Lauri Läänemets, appeared at the corruption committee. He discussed compensation payments and cash transactions. His former language editor Egle Heinsar was also present.
The committee member Kovalenko-Kõlvart said that there were many contradictions during the hearing. Heinsar stated that she issued incorrect invoices. These invoices were for Läänemets' compensation. However, the work was never actually done.
Läänemets said that the work was related to the parliament. He talked about opinion articles. But Heinsar said that she did not edit any articles. The invoices were also altered to appear more credible.
The committee did not make any decisions on Monday. The discussion will continue next week. Kovalenko-Kõlvart said that the parliament office does not have the necessary documents.
Heinsar also talked about the appeal to Kapo. It concerned the use of cash. The committee wanted to discuss the topic before the elections. But Kovalenko-Kõlvart disagreed, as it would be too political.
Läänemets said that Heinsar's claims are absurd. He said that Heinsar did language editing work for him. The invoices were correct and paid from his salary. Cash is not dirty money.
Läänemets is now awaiting the committee's final conclusion. He said that they will go to the labor dispute committee with Heinsar. The matter will be further discussed there.
Läänemets paid Heinsar in cash in 2021. Heinsar said that she received 5000 euros. This was before Läänemets became the party leader. Heinsar said that she did half-time work for 1000 euros per month.
