Tõnis Lukas is a member of Isamaa's board. He recommends Kris Kärner to withdraw his candidacy from Isamaa's list. Kärner is a YouTuber who has publicly called for political violence. Lukas told ERR that Kärner should at least withdraw his candidacy.
Kärner joined Isamaa in February. His social media posts contain many hurtful words. For example, he wrote that socialists should be lined up against a wall and shot. Lukas is very upset about this. Lukas said that Isamaa is a national democratic party and such talk is very painful.
Lukas added that a person running for the Tartu city council must provide a sense of security and be responsible. Lukas hopes that Kärner will apologize publicly and not reinterpret his words.
The chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Lauri Läänemets, wrote on social media that he expects a clear reaction from Isamaa. He said that Kärner has no place in Estonian politics. Läänemets wrote that this is the normalization of violence and it does not differ from EKRE's previous reactions.
Kärner issued an apology letter on Friday afternoon. He acknowledged that his words have been offensive and inappropriate. He said that he does not support violence and wants to be a constructive politician. He added that he wants to contribute to honest debate.
