The Information System Authority of Estonia (RIA) announced the competition in September. The aim of the competition is to find a new chief IT architect. The new architect must maintain Estonia's digital state's technological image. They must also shape its future directions. This means that information systems should develop as a unified and secure whole.
Karit Kaasik, the head of communications at RIA, stated that this week, candidates' documents will be reviewed. Next week, interviews with the candidates will take place. When the winner will be announced is still unknown. Kaasik said: "Our goal is to find the right person quickly, but the start date for the position is still uncertain."
RIA expected strong technical backgrounds from the candidates. Candidates can come from both the public and private sectors. The chief architect must be experienced in architecture and development. They must also be able to lead collaboration between different organizations. Additionally, they must explain the impact of technologies to engineers and top executives.
The tasks and work model of the new chief architect will be developed together with technology leaders and architects. RIA announced this during the competition launch.
How much the new top executive will earn is unknown. The application form had a section where candidates could indicate their salary expectations. Kaasik said: "The salary depends on the candidate's experience and skills. We offer competitive compensation, but we also consider the public sector's salary framework. The final salary will be negotiated with the candidate."
