For years, there has been talk of plans to establish a water center near Tartu Lõunakeskus. It is expected to be the largest water center in Estonia and the surrounding regions. Currently, a new detailed plan is being prepared for the project.
In addition to the water center, accommodation facilities with parking opportunities are planned for plot Riia Street 195. The decision to establish the water center and spa was made in 2020. Initially, it was planned that the complex would be completed by 2025, but this deadline was not met.
In the summer of 2024, the preparation of a new detailed plan began. Tartu Deputy Mayor Kertu Vuks said that this is necessary to better establish the water center. She added that the size of the main building is approximately 15,500 square meters, but the detailed plan is still being developed.
Representative of the developer OÜ Spa-development Tarmo Punger said that the project is moving forward and work is ongoing. Although the project is large and takes time, the establishment of the water center is planned. Currently, there are no more detailed comments about the project.
The construction right for the property is set for 50 years. According to the agreement, the water center must be completed by September 2028. The water center must have at least one 25-meter pool.
The estimated size of the investment is 70 million euros. The city believes that the previous agreements are valid and the water center will eventually be established.
