Many want to become rescuers, but the requirements are difficult to meet.
A rescuer must know the Estonian language at B2 level. They must have a secondary education and a driver's license for a passenger car. A C-category license is also desirable.
A rescuer must be strong and healthy. They must also be able to swim. This was stated by Janno Vool, the head of the Kohtla-Järve rescue team.
There are few rescuers because their salary is low. The salary of rescuers is 70-80% of the average salary in Estonia. At least an average salary is needed.
Some rescuers like the work schedule. The workweek is 24 hours with the rescue team, and then there are three days off. Roman Valuiskihh, the team leader of the Narva rescue team, said that this is a good opportunity to be with family or pursue hobbies.
Currently, eight more rescuers are needed in Ida-Viru County.
